Love that idea! I knew you could do it—you’re so good at knowing what you like in a piece and finding that same vibe in something else (or recreating it with what you already own). Funny enough, I also found my perfect black wool-cashmere coat thrifting last week and was SO happy—nothing like the thrill of thrifting! And I’m sure that missing burgundy sweater will find its way to you soon.
These are such great finds! That coat! Are all of these found in the thrift stores near your parents? When I was in the UK two years ago i was BLOWN AWAY by the sheer quality of thriftstores there. So jealous! Maybe Dutch people (always looking for a deal!) now sell whatever they can on Vinted, but thrifting is nothing compared to what it was ten years ago.
I love this post; not just for the reminder that so many of our wishlisted items can be found second-hand BUT the very real examples you gave!! Your suede jacket remains an epic find. Thank you for the inspiration to revisit my favorite second-hand sites to compare my wishlist against.
But of course you can, Harriet! The question is - do you have the patience and the time? I know I don't, so when I shop 2nd hand it's mostly an intuitive act and a creative outlet but rarely a fully planned activity. I do enjoy though being very focused and specific when sourcing 2nd hand gems for other people. I still think we need to normalize *2nd hand personal shopping*
Harriet, I’m so inspired ! Second hand shopping is growing on me and I’m starting to really enjoy it. I have to admit that the visual overwhelm/overstimulation of thrift stores has been a deterrent for me in the past, but with their increasing popularity thrift shops are getting better and better organized. I also read Ewelina’s piece « Why I Shop » this week and yes, I also love the pleasure of a high-end, curated, aesthetic experience. But I find that a truly high-end experience is harder and harder to come by. Mid-level stores have less and less stock and staff and are expensive for the quality and experience they offer. True « high-end » is not in the budget right now, so I’m very happy for the growing second hand market. It just means getting dressed to go out and pursue an aesthetic experience somewhere else (museum, coffee shop whatever …).
Such lovely finds! It's always so thrilling when you have something specific in mind and are able to get it second hand/thrifted. When I needed a long wool coat I managed to find a second Maxmara coat in a beautiful chocolate brown colour in great condition for 90€ from Vestiare and it still makes me so happy everytime I wear it.
I virtually always shop secondhand without a plan and so this is a very different approach for me — I like that! Xx
Same! I think that’s what made it even more fun ☺️
Same here and exactly what I've mentioned in my own comment above, Rach. We've hit the 'Reply' button simultaneously :)
😂 😘
The thrill of secondhand shopping 🛍️ it’s like no other especially when it’s something on the wishlist, not just a whim!
💯
I see a Seasalt Cornwall jumper on Vinted (UK) for £9.50 that may complete your wish list!
Ooh please send me the link!
https://www.vinted.co.uk/items/7035219973-seasalt-cornwall-jumper (hope the size is right, im in the UK too, Marble Arch M&S is my favourite!, and can’t quite remember if Seasalt run true to size…)
Thank you SO much for sending the link, it says Uk 12 so a little too small for me, but I know my second sweater is out there somewhere ;)

Totally! That’s what made this challenge so fun was honing in on very specific items in a short space of time ;)
