Shopping my husbands closet
Does Dave have a better wardrobe than me? & a surprise shoe craving
Dave spent the past week away for work, and one night while I decided to treat myself to a little wardrobe playdate, I found myself dipping in to Dave’s wardrobe, and boy did I find some gems! Granted it was only the shirts and the jackets I snuck away with, as his trousers are too small for me but this is a good reminder to revisit his stash more often! What’s yours is mine right? Or is it the other way around?
I wore every item with the same base of a pair of linen trousers, a vest and my Toteme T sandals, as this is most likely what i’d pair these pieces with given that it’s not that cold yet in California. We’re taking a few days off next week to stay in a cabin in the woods, and I can’t lie, I felt like his wardrobe fits that type of activity far better than my own wardrobe.
First up this beauty! This jacket is from Buck Mason. I think I bought him this for christmas a few years ago, and I remember thinking *note to self, i’ll be borrowing that at some point. The color is a sort of muted khaki, and I love it with the collar turned up. While I don’t think they make this exact shade anymore they bring it out every year in a few colors (the chocolate brown looks beaut). The quality of Buck Mason is fantastic and we’re lucky to have one near where we live. I’ve heard only great things about their vintage sweats! I saw Anna from The Wardrobe Edit recently shared her love for them, so they are also on my radar when my no buy ends as a wardrobe upgrade, especially given that my current sweats have a hole in now I’ve worn them so much. I love the story behind Buck Mason too, if anyone is interested and you don’t know about it, you can find out more here.
Has anyone else watched No one wants this? (I watched it twice) That scene where they go to the camp in the woods made me really wish I owned a plaid shirt. It was nice to see a character enjoy planning out her looks as much as I would have, especially for the picnic scene. Dave’s wardrobe came through again! One of the reasons i’m often drawn to menswear is the fact the arms are so much longer. This shirt is super old from Oneil (similar here), and I think he found this in a thrift store if I remember correctly. The blue and the mustard plaid are such a good color combo together.
Is it just me, or does this beige shacket look like it could be from Toteme? This is an old piece from uniqlo (similar here) and I have to say, this slots into my wardrobe VERY seamlessly, sorry Dave, I might not return this one! Again the length of the sleeves is so good, and I love wear the shirt ends on the body. I also enjoy the utilitarian feel of the pockets used throughout the design. It has a felt feel to it, similar to this shirt I have from Everlane which you may have seen me wear a lot, but I love the cut of this. I think I actually prefer the fit of this to my Everlane one which was from the women’s section, but I sized up.
Ok ok, was this another attempt to live out my Nobody Wants This camp scene outfits, yes, yes it is! Kristen Bell’s character is making me want to dress for woodland adventures, I can’t lie. I’d say this piece is more of a jacket in that it actually provides some weight and as a result, it’s toasty. She’s ready to chop some wood goddam it! It’s giving the lumberjack vibes I wanted a la Kristen Bell’s character and keeping just two buttons done up makes it read even more off duty. I mean, is anyone on duty when they go to a cabin in the woods? While i’m under no illusion we will buy our firewood, the most strenuous activity I can expect on this trip is lifting a ginormous glass of red wine and crackers loaded with cheese to and from my mouth! Still, the outfit fills the fantasy nicely and I enjoy finding a way to play dress up no matter where i’m headed!
Funny enough one of the things i’ve added to my wishlist that I genuinely think I will buy at the end of my no buy is these gorgeous boots from Flattered. I love being in the woods (read eating cheese and drinking wine), and the only shoe I have that comes close to working for this type of terrain is wellington boots. I feel these would be a practical addition that will also get a lot of use for colder road trips.
The main takeaway from today’s post is a reminder to shop the menswear section and don’t forget to raid the closets of any men in your life. You never know what gems could easily slot into your own wardrobe!
Thanks so much for reading

My husband‘s closet is full of beautiful floral and abstract and animal printed shirts, interesting trousers, and gorgeous jackets in colors, velvet, stripes, you name it.💕 he’s a bit of a dandy, he even has over 20 pairs of shoes. (it’s probably closer to 50 pairs.). He owns nothing like what your husband has, ha ha.
However, I love how you styled all of these pieces and support “borrowing them“.
He better not plan on leaving too often. I think you make a strong case for finders, keepers! And I admit to being sort of annoyed that my hub loves the Jil Sander man bag I bought him as much as he does! I fully expected an open rental on that one! p.s. I want to hear more about your game plan when this no shop ends.
