Despite living somewhere that is mostly warm year round, I still do a bi annual wardrobe switch over. Why? Because I like to trick my brain into believing I still have seasons. The longer I live in LA the easier it has become to acclimatize. I can now appreciate the slightest chill of a winter morning and in the evening when the sun isn’t making its presence known. My house is cooler, and I’m at a point now where I happily wear sweaters and jackets (and the occasional coat) during LA’s winter season. But I’ve found that usually come April, the sun arrives earlier, the days are longer and it’s time to switch out my ‘winter pieces’ for my Spring Summer ones.
Why do a wardrobe switch over?
Personally, I find it incredibly cathartic saying goodbye (for a while) to certain pieces and welcoming other pieces I haven’t seen or been able to enjoy for several months of the year. As someone who is shopping less and less these days for clothes, it also feels incredibly exciting to forget what I own and relish the experience of being reunited with old pieces that feel new again. It’s like shopping, without shopping.
It’s also a great opportunity to give a little bit of TLC to the pieces in your closet, especially if your goal is to make the most of your existing wardrobe without constantly having to buy more. Think of it like a routine check up, much like how you’d go to the dentist to take care of your teeth, only this is to make sure the pieces in your wardrobe are being well taken care of.
Now we’ve established the why behind a seamless wardrobe switch over, let’s get into the how, aka the step by step method that has served me well for the past eight years!
