I’ve been sitting on this for a while now and i’m beyond excited to finally reveal all. While I wholeheartedly believe my writing alone is worth subscribing too (if I do say so myself) I’ve spent the past few months genuinely trying to figure out what would add more value for paid subs, who quite frankly, are the reason I have been able to prioritize my Substack. You have given me not just the support financially, but the courage to let my writing become my main focus. Thank you, truly!
As I approach the last few weeks of my no buy, I kept coming back to what would feel exciting for me, and hopefully for you the reader? While there was a whole notebook full of ideas, I knew I wanted something that encouraged play, experimentation, creativity and above all, a way for you to get inspired using what you have in your wardrobe. I wanted something that felt like a natural progression from doing my year long no buy, that incompasses everything i’ve learned. Generally speaking, what we need is more ideas, less stuff.
I also wanted something that we could experience together. A wardrobe playdate is one of my favorite things to do, and it dawned on me, what if we could do this as a community? What if twice monthly/every fortnight, paid subscribers receive a creative challenge using their existing wardrobe, designed to help you invoke play, try new things and unlock identities you haven’t explored, AND… i’ll be doing it too. So this is the plan, and i’m SO so excited! There’s only one thing better than a wardrobe playdate, and that’s a wardrobe playdate with friends!
The post will contain all the instructions, inspiration as well as an example of how i’ll be undertaking the challenge via my own wardrobe playdate. We can share our outfits in the subscriber chat, problem solve together and support each other as we navigate a new challenge (and our comfort zones) each fortnight. And the beauty of all this, you don’t have to leave your house, so you have the freedom to really play and explore in your closet like never before. Whether you want to create outfits for the week ahead, try something new, bank some ideas for future events or you just want to have fun playing dress up, the wardrobe playdate is an invitation to play.
What can you expect?
In addition to the challenge itself (complete with instructions and inspiration) each Wardrobe Playdate™ will include an accompanying spotify playlist (made by yours truly) for you to enjoy during your own wardrobe playdate, plus a mix of videos, tips, recommendations and whatever else I feel inspired to share that’s relevant to each challenge. The goal is to help get your creative juices going, to show you that you are an artist, and that your wardrobe (yes the one you have right now) holds an abundance of possibilities.
“No matter what tools you use to create, the true instrument is you. And through you, the universe that surrounds us all comes into focus” - Rick Rubin, The Creative Act.
I like the idea that it’s a secret (like a love letter lol, or a secret invitation) so only paid subscribers will be able to see the challenge and any related info. There will be no hints on social media or the subject line, so that each fortnight it feels new and exciting. This way you’ll never have to worry about coming up with new ideas to make the most out of what you have! I kid you not when I say I have so many ideas up my sleeves, that this year alone will have you looking at your wardrobe in a whole new light.
As well as helping you really wear your clothes and find ways to make them feel new again, i’m excited for the identity shifts, the commadary, and to be doing this alongside you.
The first wardrobe playdate drops next Sunday! Eeeek, excited!
